Description: Merchants Win Fernandez Opener: This article from the Pinole Weekly Times glorified the Pinole Merchants, who won the first game played at Fernandez Park, 14-10, over Crockett on July 14, 1941. Pinole's Al Dias and Crockett's Bill Moses were locked in a pitchers' duel into the fifth inning, each allowing only one hit. But Pinole scored 10 runs in the eighth inning to sew up the victory.

Description: Walter Walker (above) and Red Powers. Walker is doing the twirling for the Santa Cruz baseball team. He is pitching a good article of ball and management thinks so much of his batting that he is used in the clean-up position. Red Powers is holding down short for the Tailors and is also managing the club. He is also one of the greatest one-inning pitchers in the bushes. Last Sunday he pitched the Tailors out of a tight hole, going to the mound in the ninth inning and then retired to short for the tenth frame.

The FVFD team, according to the Humboldt Beacon, "turned out to be young men dressed to represent young ladies of the town.
